Which referencing style should I use in my assignments?

Question:

Which referencing style should I use in my assignments?

Answer:

Your unit outline should tell you which referencing style to use. If you are unsure, you should ask your tutor or lecturer.

The most common referencing styles used at Macquarie University are:

  • The Harvard System
  • APA Style
  • MLA Style
  • Chicago Style

Learning Skills runs workshops on referencing essentials, APA and Harvard. If you've missed a workshop, you can download the slides from StudyWISE, in the first column.

The Library Guide to Referencing offers a wide range of information about all styles, including links to guides. If you are using APA, the library also provides the APA Style CENTRAL resources free of charge, where you can learn about APA and even write papers using the templates provided.
