If I enrol in Session 3 to enable me to take a lighter load in Sessions 1 and 2, will I be regarded as a part-time student by Centrelink and therefore lose my benefits?

Question:

If I enrol in Session 3 to enable me to take a lighter load in Sessions 1 and 2, will I be regarded as a part-time student by Centrelink and therefore lose my benefits?

Answer:

Centrelink regards the normal period of enrolment as a calendar year (even if there are 3 sessions).

You will generally be regarded as full-time if:

    •    you maintain an aggregate Equivalent Full-Time Study Load (EFTSL) of at least 0.75 over the year, or

    •    you have an EFTSL of at least 0.3915 allocated to a particular half year period (Session 1 or Session 2).

You can submit an online enquiry if you require further information.
