What are prerequisites and corequisites?

Question:

What are prerequisites and corequisites?

Answer:

A prerequisite is a unit that must be completed, or a requirement that must be satisfied, before you can enrol in a particular unit. A corequisite is a unit that must be completed prior to, or at the same time as, a particular unit.

Prerequisites and corequisites are listed in the Schedule of Units in the Macquarie University Handbook.  If you do not meet the prerequisites or corequisites for a unit, you can submit an application for Special Approval (also known as a waiver). To apply for special approval, please follow these steps:

1.  Log in at: ask.mq.edu.au
2.  Click 'Special Approval (Waiver)' from the 'My Stuff' menu on the left
3.  Fill in the required fields as prompted.  Once you have completed filling out the information, please click on 'Submit'.

Once you have submitted your application, you will receive an automated receipt email in your Macquarie University student email account. Please note, these types of requests are managed by the relevant Faculty Student Centre offering the unit.
