How can I use my time more effectively? Are there any time management resources?

Question:

How can I use my time more effectively? Are there any time management resources?

Answer:

It is important to plan your time: following a well-planned, realistic schedule can make a significant difference to your success at university - as well as in life.

You can get a study planner which has a calendar for the whole year on one big sheet of paper, or use an online calendar.  As soon as you get your unit outlines for each subject, put all of your assignment due dates and exams on the planner and put the planner up above your desk or somewhere easily accessible, so that you’ve got a visual reminder of what’s coming up and when. Unit guides are available on http://unitguides.mq.edu.au/units. You may also wish to work back from your assignment due dates and schedule dates on your planner or online calendar, such as 'Start reading for UNITXXX essay'; 'First draft of UNITXXX essay', etc.

StudyWISE, Macquarie's online resource for students on study and assignment skills, has lots of help and information on time management, including templates, links to apps you can use, and much more. StudyWISE is available on iLearn under Student Support, or you can self-enrol from the link on the Skills Development page: once you enrol, click on Managing your time in the first column.
