What are the levels of Academic Standing?

Question:

What are the levels of Academic Standing?

Answer:

The model is a method to identify and support students successfully continuing their studies.

The following outlines the stages of the model:

  1. ‘Satisfactory’ - a student who is on ‘Satisfactory’ standing is one who continues to pass 51% or more of their attempted load in any study period.
If you do not pass 51% or more of your attempted load in a period, you will move to ‘Academic Caution’ in the subsequent period.

  2.  ‘Academic Caution’ – a student on ‘Academic Caution’ is provided with information regarding the various support services on offer to help them get back on track, and are encouraged to engage with these in order to succeed in their studies.  A student on ‘Academic Caution’ who passes 51% or more of load in their next study period will be moved back to an academic standing of ‘Satisfactory’.

However, if you do not pass 51% or more of your load, you will move on to ‘Conditional Enrolment’ in the following period.

  3. ‘Conditional enrolment’ – a student on ‘Conditional Enrolment’ is considered to be ‘at risk’ of not completing their course, and is required to seek support to help them get back on track.  A student on ‘Conditional Enrolment’ who passes 51% or more in the next study period will move back to ‘Academic Caution’.

However, if you do not pass 51% or more of your load in the next study period, you will be on ‘Suspension’ for two study periods.

  4. ‘Suspended’ - a student with an academic standing of ‘Suspension’ is not allowed to enrol at the University for two study periods.
Following suspension, you have the automatic right of re-entry to the current version of your course and will be placed on ‘Probation’, in order for your progress to be monitored and supported.

  5. ‘Probation’ – a student is placed on ‘Probation’ for the first study period upon their return from ‘Suspension’.  If you pass 51% or more of your load in that study period, you will move back to ‘Conditional Enrolment’ and will be required to continue to seek academic advice before enrolling.

If you do not pass 51% or more of your attempted load in that study period, you will be excluded from the University for 2 years.

  6. ‘Excluded' – a student with an Academic Standing status of ‘Exclusion’ may not enrol at the University for 2 years.|
You will need to formally re-apply for admission if you wish to complete your studies.
