Question:

I have just accepted my offer and want to defer my fees. I'm an Australian citizen but I do not have a tax file number. What do I do?

Answer:

You need to complete the relevant HELP form(s) with your Tax File Number (TFN) provided by the relevant census date for your tuition fees to be deferrable.

Make sure you apply for a TFN asap (as it can take up to 28 days to be issued one).

If you’re in a Commonwealth Supported (CSP) course (such as  Bachelor’s programs):

1.  Complete the HECS-HELP form without a TFN and select that you wish to pay upfront

  • You won’t be able to enrol without this form completed

Further steps on how to submit this form without a TFN at: goto.mq/ecaf

2.  Once you receive your TFN, provide it by the census date at the latest, by email to: ecaf@mq.edu.au

  • You won’t be locked in to paying unit fees upfront if this is done by census date

If you’re in a Domestic Fee (DFEE) paying course (such as MUIC Foundation programs):

  • You won’t be able to complete a FEE-HELP form without a TFN so apply for one early
  • Complete the FEE-HELP form by census date once you receive your TFN

If it’s getting close to the census date and you still haven’t received your TFN, you’ll need to at least provide evidence of applying for a TFN before the census date (such as a Certificate of Application for a TFN). Email this evidence to: ecaf@mq.edu.au before the the census date. You can find further information at: goto.mq/ecaf.

You need to also complete a separate SA-HELP form (with your TFN) by the census date if wishing to defer the Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF).
